“You know it?” I said.

“I wrote a term paper in college about Langston Hughes,” Clemens said.

We walked in silence until Clemens howled with laughter.

“I was just thinking,” he said. “Oggie? What’s an Oggie?”

“His name,” I said. “Ogden, I think. Ogden Rowe.”

“Perfect name. For ‘certain intellectuals,’ I mean.” Clemens scratched his head. “We had a few teachers like that at the Big G.” He looked at me. “But they weren’t all like that. Like I said, some were really good. You just had to find them.”
